No roughing it under canvas, you want some old fashioned comforts on your African Safari Vacation.

The Masai Mara is a hugely popular destination for a Kenya Safari, indeed many couples choose it over all others for their honeymoon in Kenya, and so really the biggest decision is where you are going to stay. This article will look at the pros, and perhaps some of the cons of the newly refurbished, and very grand Fairmont Mara Safari Club

Words that best describe the Fairmont Mara Safari Club are fantastic luxury tented safari site, set in well maintained grounds, benefiting enormously from the new ownership, with the great service not suffering in any way at all. All the tents are very stylish very spacious, and very well maintained. You will have a shower, toilet, washbasin and dressing room area, which is useful. You can pay extra for a Premium Tent which then comes with an outdoor shower, although there is something a bit unnerving standing naked outside in the middle of the Masai Mara, somehow you feel very exposed in more than one way!! They also have a larger deck which allows private dining.

These may be tents made of canvas, but quite honestly the quality is startlingly good, better than some concrete hotels you could name, that are supposed to be five star standard.. You will sleep in a four poster bed, your veranda overlooks the river which has many hippo and crocodile, by the way the river is on three sides of the Fairmont Mara Safari Club.

The centre of Fairmont Mara Safari Club finds the main lodge which has an indoor restaurant, bar, and library with internet access, though quite why anyone should want to know what is happening in the outside world must remain a mystery.

Dining is a great combination of European, African, and Asian dishes using all the produce from Kenya. Breakfast and Lunch are buffet style, and dinner is table d’hote with a choice of main course

That is not all however, because there is also a large outside deck which sticks out over the river and this leads to a heated pool which has its own bar, and is also where you will find the massage tents.

The real purpose of course of a Masai Mara Safari in Kenya is to see as much game as possible, and certainly the big five. Fairmont Mara Safari Club organises game drives, balloon safaris over the Mara plains wit the obligatory champagne breakfast. You will be able to on a walking safari with a Masai tribesman to escort you, and you will certainly see the ‘Big Five’ and plenty other animals too including zebras, wildebeest, and cheetahs.

Thus far the Pros, and there are many, now perhaps the disadvantages. The biggest one is the fact that the Fairmont Mara Safari Club is not actually in the middle of the Masai Mara Reserve. You certainly will see an abundance of game, but this will involve a lot of driving on very bad potholed roads. To see the great migration will take a whole day, getting there, viewing, and then returning, so this is something to be aware of.

Leaving that aside, the Fairmont Mara Safari Club is an absolutely fabulous experience, and a great place to spend at least part of your Kenya Honeymoon.
